Demond Martin ’97
Demond Martin earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from UNC Charlotte in 1997 and an MBA from Harvard University. Demond is a noted investor and philanthropist and recently launched WellWithAll, a purpose-led health and wellness brand with the mission to fight health inequities in Black, Brown and underserved communities.
Prior to founding WellWithAll, Demond was a senior partner at Adage Capital Management where he invested in the consumer sector for 22 years. He also formerly served as the assistant to President Clinton’s White House Chief of Staff. Demond has served as a trustee on a number of nonprofit boards including the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the Grammy Global Venture Board and the Obama Foundation.
Demond and his wife, Kia Martin ’98, have established the UNC Charlotte Martin Scholars Program, a leading merit scholar and professional development opportunity for high-achieving students who have the highest level of financial need. In 2016, Martin and fellow alumnus Karen Popp ’80 were honored with the naming of the Karen A. Popp and Demond T. Martin Student Union.
Demond has received many awards from the University. The Alumni Association recognized him as an Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2009 and with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2021. In May 2023, UNC Charlotte bestowed upon Martin the honorary Doctor of Public Service degree, the University’s highest accolade.
Demond and Kia reside outside of Boston, Massachusetts, and have two children.
