Darla (nee Freeman) Albert earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (fix line break) from UNC Charlotte in 1983.  She began her career as an account manager with Cannon Mills Company in Kannapolis, North Carolina.  She and her husband Craig were married in 1985 and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she began her career as a mortgage banker with Ryan Homes and later NVR Mortgage.  In 1992, she left her position as NVR’s manager of quality control and internal audit to raise her children.

Darla runs the family’s philanthropy program, which supports over 25 local and national charities, and she established the Freeman Scholars program that provides scholarships to high-potential students from North Carolina who need financial support. 

Darla is married to Craig Albert; they have four grown children and one grandchild.  They reside in McLean, Virginia.
